When I say genocide what comes to mind? Probably the Holocaust right? I wouldn’t blame you, it was a horrible moment in history. But what if I said there was genocide being committed against Black people in America? And what if I said it was legal? Who would you think was responsible for it?
The Klan right? It would have to be the Klan. They hate Black people and they have lynched Black people. If anyone would be responsible for a mass genocide of Black people, it would be the KKK, right?
A Genocidal Organization
Well, good guess, but the KKK is not the group that I am referring to. It’s the abortion industry. How do I know? Well, first, let’s do a short comparison between lynchings and abortions. There were 4,075 lynchings of Black people in America between 1877–1950(1). In comparison, over 20 million Black babies have been aborted just since Roe v. Wade in 1973(2). Now I will never downplay the atrociousness of lynching in America, but which one has ended the most Black lives? With numbers like that, I see why we don’t see Klan marches like we used to.
Abortion vs. The Black Population
Still don’t believe me? Let’s talk about how abortion has affected the Black population. Currently, the Black population is over 39.3 million (3). Now compare that to the 20 million babies that were aborted since Roe. That’s a big chunk of the Black population that has been deleted from existence. Now let’s do some arithmetic. Let’s add 39 million and 20 million: 59 million. Now let’s divide 20 million by 59 million to see what percentage of the Black population has been aborted since Roe v. Wade in 1973. That equals an astounding 33 percent of the Black population that has been denied existence in this country since 1973! A THIRD of the Black population!
Still not convinced? Well, what if I told you that Black women make up almost 40 percent of all abortions even though Black people are only 13–14 percent of the population (4)? Disproportionate right? What if I also told you that the Black community is targeted for abortion with 62% of Planned Parenthood centers located within 2 miles of Black neighborhoods (5)? And what’s the final nail in the coffin? These stats that I just shared with you are the manifestation of the vision of this nation’s biggest abortion supporter!
The History of Planned Parenthood
Yep, Margaret Sanger. You may have heard her name before. She started the organization that would become Planned Parenthood. As a matter of fact, on Planned Parenthood’s website, they admit that she was a racist and eugenicist. She also started what was called “The Negro Project” which was an operation that specifically targeted Blacks in the south for abortions by taking advantage of the trust Black people had for Black doctors and ministers. In 1939, when writing about “The Negro Project” in a letter to Dr. C.J. Gamble she wrote, “We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” (6). So, as you can see, these wildly disproportionate numbers that we see pertaining to abortion in the Black community are merely a present-day manifestation of Margret Sanger’s racist ideologies.
Final Thoughts
Some may say, “Well all your stats and facts may be true, but aren’t Black people responsible for going to the abortion clinics in the first place?”. To that I say, “You’re right”. However, that doesn’t mean that I have to support it. It’s like me opening a liquor store in an area known for alcoholism. While it may be true that the customers are not forced to come to my store, it would be exploitative to purposely set up a store in that neighborhood knowing that there is a population there struggling with alcoholism.
In conclusion, I wrote this not to vilify women who may have had an abortion. I wrote this to bring light to another side of the whole abortion argument that many people do not know about, especially as it pertains to the Black community. Perhaps, as more people hear messages like this one the culture around abortion will change. At one time, abortion was seen as a desperate measure, or a last resort. Now, many people, both men and women, treat it as an errand that they run on their way home from Walmart. While abortion may be seen by many as a convenient way to deal with an unexpected event, its effects on the community as a whole are a lot more serious.
